Since 1985, the month of October has been Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each year, there are about 264,000 cases of breast cancer diagnosed in women. Many women who are diagnosed and fighting their battles with breast cancer undergo a mastectomy, double mastectomy, or another form of surgery to remove part of or all of their breasts. These surgeries can cause some women to feel self-conscious and uncomfortable with their appearance. Along with these feelings, some women also feel a lack or lost sense of femininity and sexuality. At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we offer breast reconstruction, which is also referred to as reconstruction mammoplasty.
Breast reconstruction rebuilds the breasts to closely match the appearance, shape, and size of a patient’s breasts prior to their surgery. This procedure is ideal for women who have had cancer treatments, lumpectomy, or another surgery where some or all breast tissue was removed. Saline breast implants are used for breast reconstruction and are made of a salt-water solution. These implants create symmetrical, full breasts to provide the patient with the most natural-looking results possible.
Aside from implants, a natural breast transfer can also be performed as a reconstruction technique. This surgery is performed by using a tissue expander to create a pocket in the patient’s breast for the implant. In some cases, a breast mound can form, and no breast implants are needed.

Botox is a wrinkle treatment used to help reduce the signs of aging. With age, collagen production in your body decreases, leading to a loss of elasticity. Loss of collagen and elasticity are the reasons for fine lines and wrinkles and causes the skin to sag and become less firm. Repeated facial expressions such as smiling, frowning, and squinting and environmental factors such as excess sun exposure can all lead to facial wrinkles as well.
There are large amounts of information being spread and discussed regarding Botox ever since it saw a rise in popularity in the late 1990s. As it became popular, and still is today, so has the idea that there are many negative side effects, issues, and overall misconceptions about the treatment. Myths spread about Botox treatment can be misleading and misrepresent the various benefits that Botox injections offer.
At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we have debunked some of the most common myths circulating about Botox. This alllows our patients to feel reassured that they are making the right decisions based on facts, not fiction.
#1 Botox is toxic
-
Botox has been FDA approved since 2002 and has been approved for a variety of different medical and cosmetic reasons over the span of 20 years. It has an established safety history and is extremely regulated and controlled. This myth stems from the knowledge that Botox is derived from botulinum toxin, which is extracted from the bacteria that causes botulism. Botox is not the same as botulism, and you cannot contract the illness from the use of Botox.
#2 Botox will give me a “frozen” or expressionless look
-
The “frozen” expression that is often described is typically due to an overdosage when being injected. When done properly, Botox only affects the muscles at the location of injection, and it is not capable of spreading to other parts of the body. It is important to only have Botox administered by someone qualified, and experienced to get the desired effect, with natural-looking results and display a full range of normal facial expressions and emotions.
#3 Botox injections are painful
-
Most patients describe a very mild pain, similar to a slight pinch, when getting their Botox treatment. The needles used for the procedure are very fine, and topical anesthetic creams specifically designed for Botox can be applied.
#4 Wrinkles will worsen if you stop getting Botox
-
The wrinkles targeted during the Botox procedure will not worsen if a patient does not continue to get treatment. Botox does not have permanent effects, and results typically only lasts between 6 months to a year. So, over time as facial expressions, emotions, and use of facial muscles continue, the wrinkles will slowly begin to appear again to their initial state, but not worsen.
#5 Botox is addictive
-
There are no addictive properties found in Botox. This myth largely stems from the fact that once patients complete a treatment, they are happy with their results and since it is not a permanent fix, they choose to continue to get Botox injections to maintain their appearance.
#6 Botox results are immediate
-
This procedure does not provide immediate results. Gradually and subtly the results will start to show within the first 3 to 5 days. Then, the final results will appear between 7 to 10 days following the procedure.

As the end of the summer approaches, it is important to take proper care of your skin following months of direct sun exposure. Common skin conditions that can result from being out in the sun are sun damage, wrinkles, age spots, loss of elasticity, red spots, hyperpigmentation, dry scalp and more.
At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we offer the latest skin care treatments, facials, masks and peels to acheive a glowing complexion. We offer a variety of skin care treatments that target these problems to renew and refresh your skin following the warm summer months!
Along with our treatments, it is important to remember to always apply SPF when outdoors, relaxing by the pool or laying out at the beach to protect your skin from being damaged by the sun.
Reducing Sun Damage
Sun damage is caused by UV rays breaking down healthy skin cells. As a result, this ages the skin and encourages the development of sunspots, wrinkles, rough skin, and more.
Skin care treatment options available to help combat sun damage include:
-
PerfectDerma Peel – softens sun spots and brightens the complexion
-
RevePeel Fresh – achieves a clearer complexion and diminishes sun damage with transformative results after just one treatment
-
RevePeel – clears up skin imperfections such as sun damage for healthy, glowing skin
Get Started with Hyperpigmentation Treatment
Hyperpigmentation is a skin condition caused by an increase in melanin due to sun exposure. Melanin is a natural pigment found in your body that is responsible for producing your skin pigmentation or skin tone. When this exposure is increased from being in the sun, it can result in darker patches of skin to appear. Hyperpigmentation treatments include:
-
Skinceuticals® MicroPeel – improves hydration, reduces appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and evens skin pigmentation
-
Skinceuticals® Pigment Balancing Peel – chemical peel targeting hyperpigmentation to dramatically improve an uneven appearance
-
Skinceuticals® Vitalize Peel – improves pigmentation abnormalities and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
-
RevePeel – clears skin imperfections such as hyperpigmentation for healthy, glowing skin
Keravive® for a Healthy Scalp
Keravive® is a minimally-invasive, 3-step solution that treats a wide variety of scalp problems. Dry scalp occurs when your scalp loses too much moisture, and it can be caused by many different factors such as air quality, over washing, weather, age, and more. Keravive® hydrates the scalp and restores scalp health. It is designed similar to a unique spa-like treatment and is meant to cleanse, exfoliate, nourish, and hydrate the scalp.
Dr. Asaadi and our team are always available to discuss any questions or concerns regarding skin care treatments, and other non-invasive treatments. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online!

A mommy makeover combines a variety of surgical procedures to address some of the common physical changes following pregnancy. Often after giving birth, the breasts begin to sag or deflate, and the abdomen holds excess skin, stretch marks, and bulging. This procedure is highly customized to suit the needs, goals, and desires of each individual patient.
Mommy makeover combinations may include breast enhancement, liposuction, tummy tuck, and vaginal rejuvenation.
Am I a good candidate for a mommy makeover?
If you have developed physical changes in your body following pregnancy and you are in overall good health, then you may be an ideal candidate for mommy makeover. Other important factors also include if you are finished having children, and if you are currently breastfeeding.
Each mommy makeover is uniquely tailored for each patient's health concerns and goals. These factors are important when determining what areas of the body to target and what combination of procedures to use for your mommy makeover.
Prior to scheduling the procedure, a physical examination will be conducted to discuss goals, concerns, and more to properly decide what combination of procedures to perform.
Mommy makeover targets:
-
Breasts that have deflated due to breast feeding or weight loss
-
Stretch marks
-
Pockets of fat
-
Excess skin
-
Weakened or separated abdominal muscles
How many treatments does mommy makeover include?
One of the benefits of the mommy makeover is that multiple procedures can be combined and performed at once. Additional treatments following the initial mommy makeover is dependent on what procedures were originally performed. Factors such as overall health and patient goals will be taken into account prior to the mommy makeover procedure.
How soon after having children should I consider a mommy makeover?
It is preferred that you have returned to your pre-pregnancy weight, are done having kids, and it is at least three to six months following breastfeeding that you choose to undergo a mommy makeover.
What will my recovery be like?
The recovery process and timeline will vary from patient to patient depending on which procedures were performed. Downtime can range between two to six weeks, and is discussed during the consultation appointment.
Dr. Asaadi and our staff are happy to answer any questions you may have about mommy makeover, as well as our other plastic surgery procedures. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can restore the appearance of drooping, tired eyes through the removal of excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. One of the most common concerns patients seeking eyelid surgery express is severe undereye bags. Often misdiagnosed, these undereye bags may actually be what is known as festoons, or malar bags. Patients with sagging skin or puffiness underneath the eyes are candidates for this procedure. Eyelid surgery achieves natural, younger-looking results.
Festoons are a genetic condition that result in puffiness below the lower eyelid and above the cheeks and can also appear as puffy eye bags. They are the result of either fat deposits around the eyes or muscle laxity. This causes the skin and face to appear tired and older-looking.
Treating and Diagnosing Festoons
The two main causes for festoons are excess fat and muscle laxity, and it is important to correctly diagnose a patient to create the proper treatment plan to remove festoons. Festoons can be particularly difficult to diagnose, which is why Dr. Asaadi has pioneered the Botox® Test for diagnosing and treatment.
Through the Botox® Test, a small amount of Botox is injected into the area around the eye. If the festoons become worse, the root cause is muscle laxity. This can be treated through releasing ligaments of surrounding eye muscles to reduce puffiness. If there is no change after the injection, the root cause is excess fat. This can be treated by surgically removing the fat deposits.
Why Choose Dr. Asaadi to Remove Festoons?
Dr. Asaadi specializes in diagnosing and treating festoons. Blepharoplasty is considered one of the most difficult plastic surgery procedures, and it requires expertise, attention to detail, and a highly skilled surgeon to perform correctly. If too much fat is removed from the lower eye, it can create a hollow look. Dr. Asaadi utilizes a unique method of correcting hollowness and puffiness, resulting in a youthful, fuller, and refreshed appearance.
Dr. Asaadi and our staff welcome any questions you may have about eyelid surgery and festoon treatment. Contact our New Jersey office at 973.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!
