NJ Laser Skin Resurfacing: A Refreshed Look for the New Year

POSTED ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 04, 2023 AT 9:00 AM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

With a new year comes new changes, and for many people their New Year’s resolutions involve goals to attain their desired appearance. So, why not face the new year with a refreshed and rejuvenated look?

At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we offer numerous facial rejuvenation treatments that contribute to restoring youthful, glowing skin and can provide patients with more confidence as they enter the new year.

One way to bring back radiance to the skin is through laser skin resurfacing. This is a facial rejuvenation procedure and blemish treatment that reduces cosmetic irregularities such as damaged skin, acne, and signs of aging. As you begin to age, wrinkles, folds, age spots, and fine lines will start to appear. Repairing your skin and reducing the signs of aging is possible with laser skin resurfacing.

Laser skin resurfacing uses laser beam technology to precisely target problem areas. The laser is scientifically designed to repair damaged skin while preserving as much healthy skin and tissue as possible. During the procedure, protective eye goggles are worn to shield the eyes from the laser.

There are several different laser treatments available today that are chosen based on the individual needs and preferred outcome for each patient. Laser skin resurfacing may utilize ablative lasers, non-ablative lasers, fractional lasers, and the Fraxel CO2 Pixel Perfect™ laser, and Intense Pulsed Light Treatment. A combination of these laser types can be used to effectively treat skin concerns. Laser treatments can also be performed at various depths, which is dependent on the skin imperfections being repaired.

  • Ablative Lasers: Removes damaged tissue and skin layers that cause discoloration, blemishes, or irregularities and are often used in cases of skin-firming, wrinkle treatment, and scar reduction.
  • Non-Ablative Lasers: Breaks down cosmetic blemishes on the surface of the skin and is often used for treating fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Fractional Lasers: Reach the deepest layers of the skin to remove damaged cells and promote growth of healthy tissue and is used to treat deep folds, severe wrinkles, scarring, discoloration, and liver spots.
  • Fraxel CO2 Pixel Perfect™ Laser: Treats the deepest layers of skin without harming healthy cells, restarts your body’s natural collagen production, generating new, healthy skin cells. This laser results in a high success rate and quick recovery period.
  • Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Treatment: Improve the appearance of skin irregularities by enhancing tone and texture of skin, encourage collagen production, and is used to reduce wrinkles, fine lines, sun damage, pigmentation issues, birthmarks, and more without extensive recovery time.

Laser skin resurfacing is performed for moderate-to-severe cosmetic blemishes and irregularities. Dr. Asaadi will help to achieve facial rejuvenation results by determining which laser would be best. The recovery from laser skin resurfacing is dependent on which laser was used and at what depth. Common side effects from this procedure include minor itching, irritation, and discomfort which fade in the days following the treatment. The skin may be red and sensitive for the first few weeks, and sun exposure should be avoided.

Dr. Asaadi and his staff are on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding laser skin resurfacing for the new year. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!

Body Contouring with VASER® LipoSelection

POSTED ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 03, 2023 AT 9:00 AM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

Removing and eliminating unwanted fat from different areas of the body is one of the most sought-after body contouring and plastic surgery procedures. Innovative plastic surgery advancements over the years have led to the creation of a variety of different techniques and methods to perform liposuction. These new methods are suited to better fit the needs of each patient and their desired goals. At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we offer multiple methods of liposuction, including VASER® LipoSelection.

VASER® LipoSelection is a specialized liposuction technique that removes fat and tightens skin in one procedure. The purpose of this procedure is to target unwanted fat and extract it, while also encouraging skin retraction for a gradual firming effect. This method of liposuction is minimally invasive and uses ultrasound technology to generate and transmit sound energy to underlying fat cells. As the fat cells are exposed to the ultrasound energy, it is gradually liquefied. The fat cells are then gently removed to ensure skin retraction and smoothness in the targeted areas. This procedure is ideal for patients who are interested in tackling persistent fat pockets in a range of different areas of the body.

Treatment areas for VASER® LipoSelection include the abdomen, thighs, hips, legs, arms, and neck. Other and more specific areas that can be targeted include the knees, flanks, upper arms, face, inner thighs, chin, outer thighs, calves, breasts, and ankles. The benefits of the VASER® method include predictable results, fast recovery, minimal pain and bruising, and it is gentle so it can be applied to delicate areas of the face and body.

What is the difference between VASER® LipoSelection and Traditional Liposuction results?

VASER® Liposuction is able to selectively target and extract unwanted fat from precise areas. This technique leaves the connective tissue and nerves intact, resulting in minimal discomfort and faster recovery than traditional liposuction. The VASER® method has a shorter procedure time and requires less downtime post procedure as well.

Benefits of ultrasound technology leave patients with beautifully contoured results and skin tightening benefits. Following the VASER® procedure, patients can expect long-lasting body sculpting results. This method is designed to restore and firm the natural-looking contours of your body.

Dr. Asaadi and his staff are more than happy to answer any questions concerning VASER® LipoSelection or other body contouring plastic surgery procedures. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!

Breast Reconstruction Following Mastectomy NJ

POSTED ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 04, 2023 AT 9:00 AM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

Since 1985, the month of October has been Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each year, there are about 264,000 cases of breast cancer diagnosed in women. Many women who are diagnosed and fighting their battles with breast cancer undergo a mastectomy, double mastectomy, or another form of surgery to remove part of or all of their breasts. These surgeries can cause some women to feel self-conscious and uncomfortable with their appearance. Along with these feelings, some women also feel a lack or lost sense of femininity and sexuality. At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we offer breast reconstruction, which is also referred to as reconstruction mammoplasty.

Breast reconstruction rebuilds the breasts to closely match the appearance, shape, and size of a patient’s breasts prior to their surgery. This procedure is ideal for women who have had cancer treatments, lumpectomy, or another surgery where some or all breast tissue was removed. Saline breast implants are used for breast reconstruction and are made of a salt-water solution. These implants create symmetrical, full breasts to provide the patient with the most natural-looking results possible.

Aside from implants, a natural breast transfer can also be performed as a reconstruction technique. This surgery is performed by using a tissue expander to create a pocket in the patient’s breast for the implant. In some cases, a breast mound can form, and no breast implants are needed.

The Benefits of Breast Reconstruction

  • Restores the shape, size, and appearance of breasts after mastectomy or lumpectomy
  • Natural-looking results
  • Can often be performed immediately following a lumpectomy
  • Restores confidence and sense of femininity

What to Expect Before Surgery

  • Prior to going through with a mastectomy or lumpectomy, you can begin discussing breast reconstruction and creating a treatment plan with Dr. Asaadi

What to Expect After Surgery

  • Common side effects following breast reconstruction include soreness, discomfort, tiredness, and slight swelling, bruising, or inflammation
  • Side effects to diminish in the days and weeks following the procedure
  • Recovery can vary depending on the type of breast reconstruction performed and your bodies rate of healing

Dr. Asaadi and his staff are available to answer any questions you may have concerning breast reconstruction. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online today!

Botox® Myths Debunked - NJ Plastic Surgeon

POSTED ON FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 01, 2023 AT 9:00 AM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

Botox Myths DebunkedBotox is a wrinkle treatment used to help reduce the signs of aging. With age, collagen production in your body decreases, leading to a loss of elasticity. Loss of collagen and elasticity are the reasons for fine lines and wrinkles and causes the skin to sag and become less firm. Repeated facial expressions such as smiling, frowning, and squinting and environmental factors such as excess sun exposure can all lead to facial wrinkles as well.

There are large amounts of information being spread and discussed regarding Botox ever since it saw a rise in popularity in the late 1990s. As it became popular, and still is today, so has the idea that there are many negative side effects, issues, and overall misconceptions about the treatment. Myths spread about Botox treatment can be misleading and misrepresent the various benefits that Botox injections offer.

At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we have debunked some of the most common myths circulating about Botox. This alllows our patients to feel reassured that they are making the right decisions based on facts, not fiction.

#1 Botox is toxic

  • Botox has been FDA approved since 2002 and has been approved for a variety of different medical and cosmetic reasons over the span of 20 years. It has an established safety history and is extremely regulated and controlled. This myth stems from the knowledge that Botox is derived from botulinum toxin, which is extracted from the bacteria that causes botulism. Botox is not the same as botulism, and you cannot contract the illness from the use of Botox.

#2 Botox will give me a “frozen” or expressionless look

  • The “frozen” expression that is often described is typically due to an overdosage when being injected. When done properly, Botox only affects the muscles at the location of injection, and it is not capable of spreading to other parts of the body. It is important to only have Botox administered by someone qualified, and experienced to get the desired effect, with natural-looking results and display a full range of normal facial expressions and emotions.

#3 Botox injections are painful

  • Most patients describe a very mild pain, similar to a slight pinch, when getting their Botox treatment. The needles used for the procedure are very fine, and topical anesthetic creams specifically designed for Botox can be applied.

#4 Wrinkles will worsen if you stop getting Botox

  • The wrinkles targeted during the Botox procedure will not worsen if a patient does not continue to get treatment. Botox does not have permanent effects, and results typically only lasts between 6 months to a year. So, over time as facial expressions, emotions, and use of facial muscles continue, the wrinkles will slowly begin to appear again to their initial state, but not worsen.

#5 Botox is addictive

  • There are no addictive properties found in Botox. This myth largely stems from the fact that once patients complete a treatment, they are happy with their results and since it is not a permanent fix, they choose to continue to get Botox injections to maintain their appearance.

#6 Botox results are immediate

  • This procedure does not provide immediate results. Gradually and subtly the results will start to show within the first 3 to 5 days. Then, the final results will appear between 7 to 10 days following the procedure.

Dr. Asaadi and his staff are available to answer any questions regarding Botox. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online

New Jersey Skin Care Treatments - End of Summer Skin Care

POSTED ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 02, 2023 AT 9:00 AM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

As the end of the summer approaches, it is important to take proper care of your skin following months of direct sun exposure. Common skin conditions that can result from being out in the sun are sun damage, wrinkles, age spots, loss of elasticity, red spots, hyperpigmentation, dry scalp and more.

At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we offer the latest skin care treatments, facials, masks and peels to acheive a glowing complexion. We offer a variety of skin care treatments that target these problems to renew and refresh your skin following the warm summer months!

Along with our treatments, it is important to remember to always apply SPF when outdoors, relaxing by the pool or laying out at the beach to protect your skin from being damaged by the sun.

Reducing Sun Damage

Sun damage is caused by UV rays breaking down healthy skin cells. As a result, this ages the skin and encourages the development of sunspots, wrinkles, rough skin, and more.

Skin care treatment options available to help combat sun damage include:

  • PerfectDerma Peel – softens sun spots and brightens the complexion
  • RevePeel Fresh – achieves a clearer complexion and diminishes sun damage with transformative results after just one treatment
  • RevePeel – clears up skin imperfections such as sun damage for healthy, glowing skin

Get Started with Hyperpigmentation Treatment

Hyperpigmentation is a skin condition caused by an increase in melanin due to sun exposure. Melanin is a natural pigment found in your body that is responsible for producing your skin pigmentation or skin tone. When this exposure is increased from being in the sun, it can result in darker patches of skin to appear. Hyperpigmentation treatments include:

  • Skinceuticals® MicroPeel – improves hydration, reduces appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and evens skin pigmentation
  • Skinceuticals® Pigment Balancing Peel – chemical peel targeting hyperpigmentation to dramatically improve an uneven appearance
  • Skinceuticals® Vitalize Peel – improves pigmentation abnormalities and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • RevePeel – clears skin imperfections such as hyperpigmentation for healthy, glowing skin

Keravive® for a Healthy Scalp

Keravive® is a minimally-invasive, 3-step solution that treats a wide variety of scalp problems. Dry scalp occurs when your scalp loses too much moisture, and it can be caused by many different factors such as air quality, over washing, weather, age, and more. Keravive® hydrates the scalp and restores scalp health. It is designed similar to a unique spa-like treatment and is meant to cleanse, exfoliate, nourish, and hydrate the scalp.

Dr. Asaadi and our team are always available to discuss any questions or concerns regarding skin care treatments, and other non-invasive treatments. Contact our New Jersey office at 913.731.7000, our New York office at 212.938.0158, or you may request an appointment online!
