Malar Bags NJ

Malar Mounds

Malar bags in NJ are characterized by swollen bags that appear beneath the eyes, sometimes on the upper cheek or in the area between the undereye and the cheek. Malar bags can surface as result of aging, genetics, sun exposure, smoking, and more. Dr. Asaadi specializes in the treatment of malar mounds to help patients achieve a youthful and well-rested appearance. Although malar bags are common, they can diminish self-confidence greatly, causing patients to look older than they feel.

WHAT ARE MALAR BAGS?

Malar bags or mounds are pockets of fluid that appear on the face beneath the eyes. Often referred to as eye bags, malar mounds commonly present as a result of the aging process, but can also be caused by or worsened by genetics and environmental factors. Because the eyes are the focal point of the face, malar mounds can make patients appear sick or tired. As we age, malar bags can worsen due to a decreased amount of collagen in the body. Although there are non-invasive treatments available to reduce the appearance of malar bags, surgical excision is the most successful and long-lasting solution.

DIAGNOSING THE CAUSE OF MALAR BAGS

In order to properly treat your malar bags, Dr. Asaadi will first diagnose what they are being caused by. To do so, he will inject a small amount of Botox ® into the area around the eye. As a result, some patients will experience worsening of their malar bags while others will see no change. If the malar bags get worse after the Botox® injection, they are likely being caused by muscle laxity. If the appearance of the malar bags does not change after the Botox® injection, excess fat or skin is likely the underlying cause.

WHAT IS MALAR BAG SURGERY?

In order to remove malar bags completely and prevent them from returning, Dr. Asaadi specializes in the surgical excision of malar bags. Although there are many non-surgical or non-invasive options available for the treatment of malar bags, surgery is the most effective and long-lasting. Dr. Asaadi also performs corrective malar bag surgery for patients who have previously undergone another surgical or non-surgical procedure to reduce the appearance of their malar bags that was unsuccessful or caused complications. Depending on the cause of the malar bags, surgery can entail the removal of excess fat deposits, as well as manipulating the ligaments surrounding the eye to reduce laxity.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT BEFORE MY MALAR BAG SURGERY?

Before undergoing malar bag surgery, you will first meet with Dr. Asaadi to determine whether you are a candidate for the procedure. The ideal candidate is in good general health and a non-smoker. Then, Dr. Asaadi will administer a Botox® test to discover the root cause of the malar bags. Dr. Asaadi creates a personalized treatment plan for all of his patients in order to help achieve their unique goals.

Patients undergoing malar bag surgery will receive specialized pre-care instructions prior to their procedure. In order to get the best results, patients may be instructed to avoid certain foods, drinks, supplements, or medications in order to prepare for their procedure. Patients should arrange for a ride home following the surgery and plan to recover for a few days afterwards.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY MALAR BAG SURGERY?

Following malar bag surgery in NJ, patients may experience mild bruising, swelling, or tightness after their malar bag surgery. However, these symptoms are normal and should subside in the days following the procedure. Patients may apply cold compresses throughout their recovery to ease any discomfort and swelling.

During the recovery period, patients are advised to avoid vigorous exercise and strenuous activity for a few days. Some patients may be advised to limit reading, television, and electronics while healing, as these devices can cause strain on the eyes. If you have any questions while recovering, our friendly staff at Asaadi Plastic Surgery is on hand to answer any questions you may have.

CORRECTING A PAST MALAR BAG TREATMENT

While our hope is always that patients are thoroughly informed before choosing treatment for malar bags, we’ve seen many patients who have not had such an experience when seeking care elsewhere and who end up coming to our practice for corrective surgery. Dr. Asaadi specializes in addressing cases where previous treatments or procedures haven't achieved the desired results. During your consultation, Dr. Asaadi will evaluate the underlying causes of your malar bags and create a tailored treatment plan. Although corrective surgery can be more complex due to existing scarring, Dr. Asaadi has extensive expertise in both primary and secondary malar bag surgeries and treats the most challenging and complex cases.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CHOOSING A HIGHLY EXPERIENCED PLASTIC SURGEON FOR MALAR BAG TREATMENT

Because the skin surrounding the eyes is so thin and fragile, malar bag surgery can be very difficult to perform. Thus, it is very important that you choose a skilled malar mound surgeon that has a deeper understanding of the eye anatomy, as well as the causes of malar bags. Without first determining the cause of the malar bags, it can be increasingly difficult to treat them properly. When the right plastic surgeon performs malar bag surgery, there is usually no need for a revision. Dr. Asaadi often performs corrective malar bag surgery as the result of unexperienced plastic surgeons. Dr. Asaadi stresses the importance of choosing a qualified, board-certified, and experienced malar bag surgeon in order to achieve optimal results and avoid potential complications.
