Revision Festoon Surgery

Revision festoon surgery corrects the results of a past surgical or non-invasive procedure intended to reduce the appearance of festoons. While festoons are common, they can be increasingly difficult to treat and not every plastic surgeon understands the intricacies of festoons and festoon surgery. Dr. Asaadi specializes in festoon surgery and corrective festoon surgery. He sees patients from near and far looking to correct previous festoon surgeries and treatments. With years of experience and a specialization in festoon surgery, Dr. Asaadi has mastered the technique for removing festoons. Many patients who come to Dr. Asaadi for corrective care often wish they had initially sought his expertise. At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, we aim to ensure patients are always informed and in the best hands possible. Although many surgeons claim to excel in festoon removal surgery, few truly understand the pathophysiology of festoons and malar bags. Dr. Asaadi has earned a reputation as one of the most trusted plastic surgeons for festoon correction surgery, delivering the successful results that patients have struggled to find elsewhere.

WHAT IS CORRECTIVE FESTOON SURGERY?

Corrective festoon surgery is a secondary surgical procedure to correct the results or fix any complications that resulted from a previous festoon surgery or treatment. Dr. Asaadi offers corrective festoon surgery for patients who have undergone unsuccessful procedures to reduce the appearance of festoons in the past. Festoons, otherwise known as malar bags, are pockets of fluid that surface on the face between the eyelid and cheek region. Because festoons present on the face, where the skin can be generally thinner and more delicate, they can often be difficult to treat. Dr. Asaadi specializes in the removal of festoons by first determining what is causing the festoons, which is the key to his success in this procedure. Although there are many non-surgical or non-invasive procedures that claim to help reduce the appearance of festoons, these treatments yield unsuccessful results and can worsen the issue. Dr. Asaadi performs surgical excision of festoons, which has proven to be the most successful and long-term solution.

WHY UNDERGO CORRECTIVE FESTOON SURGERY?

There are many non-invasive or non-surgical treatments available in the cosmetic industry that claim to reduce the appearance of festoons. Some of these treatments include cosmetic fillers, laser treatments, microneedling, and more. However, because festoons are common among older patients and surface in areas where the skin is already susceptible to damage, these non-invasive or non-surgical procedures worsen festoons. For example, cosmetic fillers are often used to plump this area and lessen the appearance of festoons. However, large amounts of filler can distort the facial appearance. Many of these patients later choose to have the filler dissolved, only to find the skin under the eyes left looking sunken, wrinkled, and sagging. In other cases, some patients seek Dr. Asaadi’s care after being displeased with the appearance of their eyes following a previous surgical procedure. Dr. Asaadi specializes in secondary festoon procedures, allowing patients to achieve a renewed sense of self-confidence.

WHO IS THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR CORRECTIVE FESTOON SURGERY?

If you have undergone a treatment for festoons or malar bags that was previously unsuccessful, you may be a candidate for corrective festoon surgery in NJ. Corrective festoon surgery can revise the results of a past procedure and help patients achieve their cosmetic goals. Some reasons patients may seek corrective festoon surgery include scarring, eyelid retraction, ectropion, or incomplete festoon removal. It is strongly advised that patients seeking corrective festoon surgery wait at least 6 months after their first treatment to ensure they have seen the full results before opting for another. The ideal candidate for corrective festoon surgery is in good general health and a non-smoker.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT BEFORE CORRECTIVE FESTOON SURGERY?

Before undergoing corrective festoon surgery, Dr. Asaadi will carefully examine your festoons and administer a Botox® Test to diagnose what is causing them. Dr. Asaadi pioneered this test to help determine if festoons are being caused by muscle laxity or simply excess fat. By doing so, Dr. Asaadi can ensure he formulates the proper treatment plan. Patients will receive specific instructions to follow before arriving for their corrective festoon surgery. We encourage patients to plan their recovery before the procedure and arrange for a ride to and from surgery.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER CORRECTIVE FESTOON SURGERY?

Immediately after corrective festoon surgery, patients may experience bruising, swelling, or tightness. Patients may use cold compresses and eye drops to help ease any discomfort and aid in the recovery process. After about a week, patients will need to return to the office to have their stitches removed. It is recommended that patients avoid strenuous activity and exercise while healing. You may also be advised to limit screen time to reduce strain on the eyes. Following your corrective festoon surgery, our friendly staff is on hand to answer any questions you may have during your recovery.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CHOOSING A HIGHLY EXPERIENCED PLASTIC SURGEON FOR CORRECTIVE FESTOON SURGERY

The treatment of festoons can be very complex, especially when it is a secondary procedure. Dr. Asaadi has been performing festoon surgery for decades and specializes in corrective festoon procedures. It is of utmost importance that your surgeon understands not only your individual anatomy, but the cause of the festoons as well in order to provide proper treatment. Dr. Asaadi stresses the importance of choosing a qualified, experienced, and board-certified plastic surgeon when considering corrective festoon surgery.
