Why Breast Augmentation Combined With Breast Lift Is A Reconstructive Surgery

For years, women have turned to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery for an improved appearance to glorify the youth and radiance they feel inside. As factors such as pregnancy, weight loss, gravity and genetics take their toll on our bodies, we look for that once youthful and sculpted look we once held.

For many women, this look comes from improved contours, size, and shape of the breasts. This can be done through procedures such as breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, and breast reconstruction. No matter what procedure you are considering, patients should understand when their treatment is considered cosmetic, reconstructive, or both.

NJ plastic surgeon, Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi explains why combining two of the most popular breast surgeries, breast augmentation and breast lift (mastopexy), should be considered reconstructive surgery rather than cosmetic. Why? Breast augmentation with mastopexy (breast lift) combines several surgery techniques to achieve a restored look to the breasts. These techniques strive to provide similar aesthetic results as reconstructive procedures, such as breast reconstruction following mastectomy. In fact, when combining breast augmentation with mastopexy, release of the pectoralis muscle is done more than when performed during augmentation mammoplasty.

Breast augmentation combined with breast lift is most commonly performed during Mommy Makeovers, or may be combined with abdominoplasty to reverse all the effects of pregnancy in young women.

During breast augmentation mastopexy, the breasts are enlarged and the breast envelope is made smaller. Unlike traditional augmentation mammoplasty, breast augmentation with mastopexy requires a bigger release of the pectoralis muscle, therefore the implant chosen should be smaller. Additionally, the position of the nipple and areola should be done on the most projecting part of the breast, with special attention paid to the circulation on the nipple and areola.

Afterwards, your plastic surgeon will gently insert permanent interlocking sutures around the areola to prevent spreading or a larger, deformed areola.

Look as beautiful as you feel and discover the benefits of breast augmentation and breast lift. Dr. Asaadi and our staff welcome any questions you may have about breast augmentation and mastopexy in NJ. Contact our office at 973.731.7000 or request your appointment online today.
