Breast Reconstruction NJ - Post Mastectomy
POSTED ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 01, 2022 AT 10:36 AM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Many women who are fighting breast cancer often undergo a mastectomy or double mastectomy in order to treat existing cancer or prevent it from forming in high-risk cases.
During this procedure, all or part of the patient’s breasts may be removed.
While every woman approaches and experiences a mastectomy in their own way, it can sometimes leave a patient feeling mournful, insecure, or anxious.
At Asaadi Plastic Surgery, breast reconstruction surgery is offered to help restore the sense of femininity and sexuality that some women feel they lose after winning their courageous battle with breast cancer.
What is Breast Reconstruction Surgery?
Breast reconstruction surgery, also known as reconstruction mammoplasty, restores natural-looking breasts for women who have lost breast tissue as a result of a mastectomy, lumpectomy, or other medical procedures.
How is Breast Reconstruction Surgery Performed?
During breast reconstruction surgery, a tissue expander is used to create a pocket in which a saline breast implant can be inserted. After the implant is placed, Dr. Asaadi will use discreet sutures to close the incisions. In some cases, this will create a breast mound, so an implant may not be needed.
After the pocket is created, further symmetry and contours can be achieved through fat grafting. During this procedure, fat is harvested from other areas of the body, such as the back or abdomen, and transferred to the breasts.
