From the drug store to your countertop, many of us place trust in skin care products that we hope will revive and improve our skin. All promising some type of facial rejuvenation, it can become overwhelming to know what will work and what is right for you. While you may struggle to decide which regiment is right for you, Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi explains that you should, “be sure to use a skin product that you know and understand how it works.” More importantly, “be sure to take care of your skin,” on all areas of the body, not just the face. Creating the latest buzz among dermatologists and plastic surgeons alike is SkinMedica’s skin enhancing complex, Lytera®.

With this new revolution of skin care, individuals can treat one of the most common skin conditions so many struggle with each year. Known as the next generation in skin brightening, Lytera® offers relief for those struggling with some of the most common signs of hyper-pigmentation. This new advancement in skin care from SkinMedica allows patients to improve skin pigmentation in as early as four weeks with continued use.

Lytera® is FDA-approved, hydroquinone free, and provides relief to the most common causes of hyper-pigmentation, including, age spots, melisma, and discoloration caused by acne, inflammation, hormones, and sun damage. Another perk, Lytera® includes antioxidants, mild exfoliates, and moisturizing ingredients.

In the past, the most common treatment for uneven skin tone was hydroquinone, an ingredient that raised controversial safety concerns. Unlike similar products however, Lytera® does not use hydroquinone.

Correct Aging Eyes With Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty in NJ!

POSTED ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2013 AT 6:07 PM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

Which features do you notice first on others? For many people, the first point of contact is a person’s eyes. In fact, your eyes are the most attractive and expressive part of your face. At first glance, your eyes not only give away your emotions, they help to define how old or young you look. Over the years, however, factors such as age, genetics, and lifestyle choices can lead to dropping eyelids and puffy bags below the eyes, making you look older and even more tired than you actually feel. Correcting aging of the eyes is often accomplished through eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty.

NJ plastic surgeon, Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi, explains that while there are different methods of correcting aging upper and lower eyelids, your plastic surgeon should take a careful assessment of your individual aesthetics. The first step in making a proper diagnosis is determining how much excess fat of the eye a patient is experiencing. Because the upper eyelids consist of thinner skin, they are more prone to showing the first signs of aging. Depending on your individual needs and desires, your plastic surgeon can help you determine which method of blepharoplasty may be right for you.

Upper eyelift: upper blepharoplasty typically involves the removal of excess skin and fat.  Your surgeon should aim for the most natural look as possible. It is important your plastic surgeon ensures not to remove too much skin in order to avoid a hollowed eye effect.

Lower eyelift: a more complex procedure, lower blepharoplasty can be done in multiple ways. A lower eyelift involves removing, reshaping, and tightening the skin and tissue around the middle and outside areas of the eye.

Both upper and lower blepharoplasty can be combined for an overall natural look of youth. During the procedures, there are three areas of fat your plastic surgeon will target, each of which involve different method of fat removal. These include:

  • Medial: have to selectively remove and reposition these areas of fat
  • Center: Don’t take out too much fat
  • Lateral: needs to be treated aggressively

NJ plastic surgeon, Dr. Asaadi, and our staff welcome any questions you may have about blepharoplasty in New Jersey. Contact our office at 973.731.7000, or request an appointment online today for your personal consultation!

Cool Sculpting & Ultherapy in NJ for Non-Invasive Fat Reduction & Facial Tightening

POSTED ON MONDAY, JULY 29, 2013 AT 2:31 PM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

With many options on the market today promising quick facial and body rejuvenation, you may find it easy to become lost in the endless amounts of choices.

How do you know which is right for you? What factors should you consider when searching for a non-invasive measures to enhance you overall look?

Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi explains two common procedures used today that are both FDA approved and require little to no down time.

CoolSculpting: When your plastic surgeon is looking to target localized areas of fat, he/she may recommend the CoolSculpting procedure.

CoolSculpting is ideal for stubborn areas of fat, including the flanks, abdomen, and face.

Advantages of CoolSculpting include:

  • Non-Surgical
  • Minimal Downtime and Lasting Results
  • Natural-Looking Results
  • Promoted Skin Tightening

During the CoolSculpting procedure, your plastic surgeon will use a gel on the skin to cool off the fat. A vacuum applicator will then pull the excess area of fat into cooling panels, targeting and destroying individual fat cells. Each area of fat takes about one hour and can require anywhere from 1-4 treatments. These treatments can be done on the same day or on multiple days.

Ultherapy New Jersey: Ultherapy provides patients minor improvements without the downtime. Tightening the skin’s collagen, Ultherapy is an attainable option for those who have good skin elasticity. Patients can tighten several areas of the face with Ultherapy, including:

  • Brow areas
  • Under the chin
  • Along the jawline
  • Neck area

During Ultherapy, direct sound waves gently heat the deeper muscles of facial tissue, lifting and tightening the layers of the face.  While Ultherapy will not replace a traditional facelift, patients who are seeking quick facial rejuvenation enjoy the natural, noticeable results of Ultherapy.

If you would like to talk to Dr. Asaadi, our NJ plastic surgeon and staff welcome any questions you may have about CoolSculpting, Ultherapy in New Jersey, or any other cosmetic and reconstructive procedures. What to Know When Combining Multiple Plastic Surgery Procedures!

POSTED ON THURSDAY, JUNE 13, 2013 AT 6:02 PM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

Flip flops, sun dresses, warmer weather, and the  ocean’s salt water aroma announce summer’s offical arrival! Summer always seems to quickly creep in, with the added reminder of our individual desires of achieving that perfect beach body.  While combining several plastic surgery procedures at the same time to help meet this goal may seem like a quick way to attain your beach body, NJ plastic surgeon, Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi shares what you should know before making the decision.

Dr. Asaadi explains that it is safe, as long as the patient carefully selects who they select to perform the surgery and what facility they choose. Dr. Asaadi gives a few quick tips on what you should know before opting to have several procedures done at the same time.

1. You should be healthy- A healthy individual is less at risk of complications during surgery. Before electing for plastic surgery, have a check-up with your doctor, and let your plastic surgeon know of any health complications or concerns you have.

2. Your surgery should be performed in a well-equipped hospital setting-your plastic surgery should never be performed in a facility that is not accreddited or fully-equipped. When having multiple procedures, it is important that the procedures are performed in a hospital setting that provides all the neccassary tools your surgeon and nurses will need during surgery.Your doctor should also have credentials from a hospital.

3. Select a strong team of nurses and doctors-you should always choose a board certified plastic surgeon. Additionally, nurses should be registered, and an anesthersiologist should remain on hand in case anything goes wrong.

4. Stay overnight-After your surgery, you should be advised to stay at the hopital overnight. This will allow doctors to closely monitor your health and ensure patient safety.

If your just starting to step up your body’s sizzle this summer, know what to look for and where to go. NJ plastic surgeon, Dr. Asaadi, and his staff welcome any questions you may have about plastic surgery in New Jersey. Decreasing Potential Problems During Breast Augmentation in New Jersey!

POSTED ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 08, 2013 AT 5:22 PM by Dr. Mokhtar Asaadi

Are you considering breast augmentation in New Jersey? Each year, hundreds of thousands of women choose to enhance their curves through breast augmentation surgery. As many women have just begun undergoing breast-enhancing procedures, hoping to fill out bathing suits in time for beach trips and summer’s curve conscious fashions, Dr. Asaadi wants patients to learn what they should know before their breast enhancement in NJ.

“There is a difference when doing breast augmentation as opposed to breast revision and breast reconstruction surgery,” Dr. Asaadi says. “Patients need to know all the advantages and disadvantages of undergoing breast augmentation.”

The outcome of breast augmentation is dependent on surgical techniques and the experience of your plastic surgeon. When performed correctly, patients should not experience leakage of the breasts or any signs of capsular contraction. Unfortunately, many patients fail to visit a board certified plastic surgeon who understands breast augmentation surgery, the anatomy of the patient, and how to choose the best treatment for that patient.

Dr. Asaadi is board certified in plastic surgery and helps educate and inform his patients of everything they need to know and understand before breast enhancement. In fact, 20 years following breast augmentation, Dr. Asaadi’s patients do not even realize they have implants. In the last 22 years, Dr. Asaadi has only used saline implants, and the rate of secondary procedures on his patients who received breast augmentation mammoplasty remains less than 1%. “At my practice, we do not have patients with capsular contraction, leakage of the implant, infection, bleeding, or hematoma. They do not need drains or dressings following surgery,” he says. “My patients wear a soft bra immediately following their breast enhancing procedure.” His gentle and meticulous surgical techniques leave patients with only minimal pain and discomfort.

According to national statistics, 25% of breast implants call for a secondary procedure following breast augmentation because the first surgery was not performed correctly. “You cannot do this procedure half-hazardly,” he advises. “It is important to have breast augmentation performed perfectly the first time to avoid problems later in life,” he says. Questions to consider when visiting your plastic surgeon for breast augmentation surgery include:

What is the size implant suitable for me?

The size of the implant patients receive should be fit the patient’s chest, base of the breast, thickness of the breast, and other anatomy of the patient. Just like a shoe size, patients should choose the size implant that fits the size of their chest. If you have a larger chest for example, you may opt for a larger implant. Patients with a smaller, tighter chest however, should not choose an overly large implant to ensure safety and to avoid complications with the implant following breast augmentation.

What type of implant fits my individual anatomy?

The most famous questions patients ask before their breast augmentation remains, should I use silicone or saline implants? Both silicone and saline implants have advantages and disadvantages, however, Dr. Asaadi prefers to use the saline implants due to their natural feel, look, and shape.

Where will the surgeon be placing my implant?

Your plastic surgeon can insert your implant through four different areas. These areas include the armpit, around the areola, the stomach, and under the fold of the breast. Dr. Asaadi cautions against having the implant inserted through the breast tissue, as there becomes a greater risk of developing biofilm, which can lead to capsular contraction. Capsular contraction causes hardness of the breast, leading to complications that often require patients to have another surgery.

Enhance your curves in time for summer and go into your surgery educated and with the right plastic surgeon. Dr. Asaadi and our staff welcome any questions you may have about breast augmentation in NJ.
